Compatibility of standard BMS

List of products that are believed to be compatible with the standard Li-Ion BMS

The Elithion BMS design is sufficiently versatile to make it compatible with most power components commonly found in power, vehicle and traction applications. In particular, it has been designed to be compatible with the following devices.

DMOC
  • Gradual back-off as battery gets empty
  • Over-discharge shut-off
  • Over-charge regen disable
The DMOC does provide CAN support. However, it is designed to communicate with a VCU (Vehicle Control Unit), not directly with a BMS. For vehicles without a VCU, there is very little use for the DMOC's CAN bus:
  • The DMOC expects Motor Torque Limits, not Battery Current Limits, yet the BMS knows nothing of motor torque
  • Even if the BMS were to try to act like a VCU, and limit the DMOC motor torque based on battery current and its limits, the same message that contains the torque limits must also contain the desired motor speed, and the BMS known nothing of the throttle position
Therefore, without a VCU, there is no use for the DMOC's CAN bus data, and the DMOC must be used in the standard, analog method.
