Examples of Elithion's technology in use in Plug-in Hybrids

Davide Andrea designed a Plug-in Hybrid conversions for the Toyota Prius (for Hybrids Plus, a company he co-founded):

Two models: PHEV 15 (about 30 mile PHEV range) and PHEV 30 (about 60 miles).

This product is generally recognized as the most seamlessly integrated PHEV conversions made:

  • PHEV battery replaces stock battery, electrically, physically and in the communication network.
  • Access to the spare tire is retained
  • In the PHEV15, no storage space is lost (very little is lost in the PHEV30)
  • No permanent modifications: the car can be easily restored to factory conditions
  • Able to display true battery SOC in original Prius display, flicker free
  • Proprietary plug location, not requiring a hole drilled in the car body

Davide Andrea also designed a Plug-in Hybrid conversion for the Ford Escape:

  • reverse engineering
  • electrical and electronic design
  • software development
  • general mechanical design

The conversion replaced the stock battery with a PHEV battery of much higher available capacity, in the same location as the original battery, giving the vehicle an approximate PHEV range of 50 miles.

Uncannily, this design was later closely matched by Ford itself, in its PHEV prototype (though certainly developed independenly), in a way confirming that the design choices that we made were sound.
